Coronal Polishing/Fluoride Application (Indiana) - $700.00

Coronal Polishing Course (828 IAC 6-1-2)
Five (5) hour online didactic instruction covering the following topics:

  • Proper Procedure Used for Filling Out Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Recording & Reviewing Accurate Documentation of Dental Records
  • Proper Review of Dental & Medical Health History of Patients
  • Review Dental Anatomy
  • Review Proper Ethics and Jurisprudence.
  • Define Plaque and Materia Alba.
  • Define Intrinsic and Extrinsic Stains.
  • Proper Identification & Defining Abrasive Agents.
  • Utilization of a slow-speed handpiece, prophy cup, and occlusal polishing brush.
  • Theory of selective polishing.
  • Infection control.

Additionally, engage in two (2) hours of laboratory work, including practice on a mannequin and two (2) live patients, focusing on the use of a slow-speed handpiece, prophy cup, and occlusal polishing brush, as well as hand dexterity. Demonstrate clinical competency on a minimum of five (5) patients.

Fluoride Application Course (828 IAC 6-1-1 Caries prevention)

Nine (9) hours of didactic instruction covering the following subjects:

  • Ethics and Jurisprudence.

  • Reasons for fluoride.

  • Systemic fluoride.

  • Topical fluoride.

  • Toxicity of fluoride.

  • Fluoride application.

  • Infection control.

Additionally, engage in two (2) hours of laboratory work, including practice on a mannequin and two (2) live patients, focusing on topical fluoride applications. While demonstrating clinical competency on a minimum of five (5) patients.

Requirements: Dental assistants with a minimum of one (1) year of employment in a dental practice or those who have graduated from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association are eligible. Completed requirements allow assistants to polish the coronal surface of teeth under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.

Assistants must commit to acting as patients for coronal polishing, adhere to OSHA guidelines for infection control, and utilize Personal Protective Equipment.

This course aligns with the guidelines of the Indiana Dental Practice Act, and all educational and clinical requirements comply with the State of Indiana.
